Socrates is the EU education programme. It supports European co-operation on a range of educational projects, initiatives and professional development, providing opportunities for all sectors, including schools, higher education and lifelong learning.

Socrates spans the entire breadth of the UK's education system. Its key aim is to improve quality and strengthen the European dimension in education. The programmes followed at Ripley fall under the heading Comenius – this is a programme for schools and further education which supports joint curriculum projects between schools and colleges, staff training opportunities and the development of networks.

Leonardo da Vinci is the European Community's vocational training programme. It encourages collaboration between organisations involved in vocational training, aiming to improve the quality of training provision, develop the skills and mobility of the workforce, stimulate innovation and enhance the competitiveness of European industry.

This site was developed to appeal to the school children rather than adults. The idea was that, once up and running, the children would design and produce the content to be added so it would be very much 'their' school website.

The Specialist Schools Trust is the lead body for the Government's specialist schools programme. It seeks to give more young people access to a good secondary education by: Building networks, Sharing best practice & Supporting schools.

The Trust is committed to providing continuing professional development opportunities for educationalists.

In May 2003 Ripley achieved the prestigious Artsmark Silver Award in recognition of the outstanding range of opportunities available for pupils in the Arts. The work produced in Art, Music, Drama and Dance within the curriculum is enhanced and developed through an impressive programme of extra curricular activities.

In 1998, we were awarded the prestigious 'Sportsmark' Award by the English Sports Council, in recognition of the quality and range of activities provided for all pupils. Pupils are encouraged to aim for the highest levels of performance, and we regularly compete at County and National level. In the last few years, our pupils have reached National or County standard in athletics, swimming, rugby, football, hockey, canoeing, cross-country, cricket, golf, tennis and table-tennis.

In May 2002, we were awarded the Schools’ Curriculum Award, a national award presented only to schools ‘at the heart of the community’. The award celebrates the effective way in which our curriculum incorporates a significant community and charity dimension into its planning and delivery.

In 1999, the Department for Education and Employment (now DfES), launched a three year strategy to encourage more schools in England to use the Investors in People Standard to support the school improvement and raising standards agenda.

Investors in People continues to have an important role in the emerging agenda, including Reforming the school workforce, Continuing Professional Development and Performance Management.
